Safe Communities

Safe communities are important to each of us. A large portion of your tax dollars goes to fund the jail and essential public safety services. It is imperative that we fund these critical services to keep our neighborhoods safe. We have come to expect a level of service from the Sheriff's department, and that comes with a cost. Transparency in every level of public safety spending will let the citizens know their money is being spent appropriately. As Larimer County potentially moves forward with another jail sales tax increase on the ballot in November, it is up to our elected officials to show that those tax dollars will be spend judiciously on public safety. Many first time offenders in the system benefit from rehabilitation, especially in the areas of non-violent alcohol and drug offenses. Whenever possible, keeping citizens in their homes and community is best for all involved. I will always support Larimer County investing in ways to rehabilitate non-violent offenders who are willing to work towards earning a second chance.
